Streams are great places to practice with neutral density filters

Today, I had a workshop with Gary Smith.   This was our second workshop together.  Last year we worked locations along the North Shore of Maui.   Today, we worked locations off the South Shore, and in Iao Valley.   The goal of today’s workshop was to increase his ability to see composition.  So we worked with diagonal lines, vertical lines, lines that repeat, horizontal lines, the rule of thirds, and using slow shutter speeds to make the water look swirly and surreal.   I have to say Gary has a lot of passion, and that helped him to start “seeing” compositions for photographs rather than take pictures.  It was a great day!
