Using an L in Making a Photogrpahic Composition

Today my family is at the Makawao Rodeo.  My daughter Hana is all about horses.  Currently seven years old she has been riding only a half dozen times.  Most of these experiences were at festivals and meant just to get kids excited about horses.   Well it works. Hana will go to Horse camp at the end of summer and learn how to ride, brush, and care for horses.   It’s her dream come true.

This image was created a few summers ago in Colorado.  We were visiting family and friends and had the opportunity to stay on a ranch for a few days.  I got up early and went for a walk and created this portrait.

I like the L composition. The vertical and horizontal lines of the fence really frame the horses face.  As mentioned in previous blogs lines of repetition are strong compositional elements and serve  to draw the eye into the subject and out of frame,
