Yesterday I had the opportunity to dive with Extended Horizons in Maui. The company is owned by Erik and Victoria Stein and they have been in business for 27 years. They have a 12 passenger dive boat and go to the island of Lanai, where they have 30 dive sites to choose from.
What impressed me the most is how green they are. They are the ONLY commercial marine tour boat on Maui running on 100% biodiesel. (Not the only dive boat- the only Commercial boat) Some other companies try to greenwash this idea by telling you they run biodiesel but the truth is they use only 1% biodiesel. The biofuel Extended Horizons uses is made here on Maui from recycled vegetable oils by Pacific Biodiesel. It costs a bit more than regular diesel but it is much easier on the environment reducing their carbon footprint (finprint?)by over 80% compared to diesel.

The boat also uses reusable water bottles for the guests, eliminating thousands of plastic bottles going into the landfills each year. Just by doing this Extended Horizons has se the bar very high, and I hope other charter boats and tourist activities will follow suit. Just imagine how wonderful our island would be if all these activity companies did this.
The company also does a great job taking people diving. The boat is full service and literally all the guest needs to do is breathe. I had a lot o fun diving with Extended Horizons and look forward to the next time.
